I have done this test as well. There is no delay as such when only one of the tomcat is up and running. Though Apache directs all the traffic only to this tomcat. Further, the "Opening Document" window still doesn't show up when only one tomcat is up and running (when its directed through Apache and not directly hitting tomcat).

I further saw a really strange behaviour.

I installed fiddler (to catch the http traffic). When I switch on the trace via fiddler, then, even when directly accessing the tomcat (with port may be 8080 in the URL), the "Opening Document" window doesn't show up.

I am completely lost now as to what the issue can be.

Any suggestions are welcome.
